Watch the video of "Toward Canonization," the historic programme about the cause of Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin broadcast from the basilica of Notre-Dame at Alencon on October 19, 2013, the fifth anniversary of their beatification

The audio of this program is, of course, in French.

.Bishop Jacques Habert, bishop of Seez, introduces it.

  • For this fifth anniversary, Walter and Adele Schiliro, the parents of the child Pietro whose healing at the intercession of Louis and Zelie Martin was accepted as the miracle for their beatification, traveled from Italy to France. The Schiliros are Italian, but you will see them seated in the sanctuary of the basilica where the couple whose intercession saved their son's life were married in 1858.  Walter Schiliro tells very simply the story of their son's birth, illness, and cure.  The Schiliros have said that their way of giving thanks is to make Louis and Zelie better known, and their testimony is deeply moving.
  • Dr. Paterlini, a medical expert on Pietro Schiliro's case, then speaks about the case.
  • Mgr Bernard Lagoutte, former rector of the basilica of St. Therese at Lisieux, will review the progress of the cause of the canonization of Zelie and Louis.  The program ends with questions from the audience.

We thank the diocese of Seez and M. Hubert Moritz for recording the program and uploading it so quickly.

Fr. Jim Kubicki, national director of the Apostleship of Prayer, speaks about Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin on Relevant Radio

On Wednesday, July 10, to honor the feast of Louis and Zelie Martin, Father Jim Kubicki, the national director of the Apostleship of Prayer, a great friend of Therese and a dear friend of mine, spoke about Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin and about the vocation to family prayer on "Inner Life,' a call-in radio show for spiritual direction on Relevant Radio. He spoke sensitively and in depth about the marital spirituality of Louis and Zelie as it applies to us and about the vocation of prayer, and graciously recommended both "Saint Therese of Lisieux: A Gateway" and the book "A Call to a Deeper Love," the letters of Louis and Zelie. Please listen to the show at http://www.relevantradio.com/audios/the-inner-life (select the date July 10).

The diocesan process for the presumed miracle attributed to Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin to open on January 7, 2013 in Spain

"The process concerning the diocesan inquiry into the presumed miracle attributed to the Martin spouses will be officially opened by the Archbishop of Valencia, in Spain, on January 7 at 7:00 p.m.  The Tribunal will be named, and the first session will follow the next day.  If all goes well, the final work could be sent to Rome at the end of April or the beginning of May, which could mean . .  . canonization of Louis and Zelie in 2013!"

On December 12, 2012 the Shrine at Lisieux posted the above announcement in French on its Facebook page. See more about the lives of Blessed Louis and Zelie MartinRead about "A Call to a Deeper Love," their collected letters.
